Amanda Moll of Washington set a collegiate record in the pole vault on Thursday, clearing 15 feet, 10 1/2 inches to win the event at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships. Her victory, over her sister Hana Moll, helped the Washington Huskies take the team lead.
Washington accumulated 18 points, leading Iowa State (15) and Nebraska (14) after the second day of competition. In other events, Iowa State's Mercyline Kirwa won the 10,000 meters in 31 minutes, 54.88 seconds, surpassing the collegiate record holder. Nebraska's Axelina Johansson secured the shot put title with the third-furthest throw in NCAA history at 65-4 1/4, completing a season sweep and earning her fourth career title.
