Two brothers from Texas have pleaded guilty to a violent cryptocurrency kidnapping and robbery that resulted in the theft of over $8 million from a Minnesota family. Isiah Angelo Garcia, 25, and Raymond Christian Garcia, 24, admitted to traveling to Minnesota with the intent to commit the crime.
On September 19, 2025, the Garcias entered the family's home in Grant, Minnesota, at gunpoint, zip-tied the family members, and held them for more than eight hours. During the ordeal, Isiah Garcia compelled the father to move cryptocurrency funds, including retrieving additional storage devices from a cabin. In total, more than $8 million was transferred.
The family's son managed to contact 911, and the brothers fled the scene. Law enforcement identified the suspects using evidence left behind and apprehended them in the Houston area. Both brothers pleaded guilty to one count of interference with commerce by robbery before U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery in Minneapolis.
Each faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison and has agreed to pay over $8 million in restitution. The case highlights a growing trend of "wrench attacks," where victims are coerced into surrendering cryptocurrency through physical force or threats. FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Christopher Dotson stated that such violence would be aggressively investigated, and U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen emphasized accountability for the brothers' actions.
