Severe tropical storm Jangmi has disrupted transport and businesses across Japan with fierce winds and torrential rain, cutting power to nearly 60,000 households. The storm's center, with a central pressure of 980 hPa and maximum sustained winds of up to 25 metres per second, was tracking northeast towards the greater Tokyo region. Some areas along the Pacific coast are at an increasing risk of life-threatening disasters. Hundreds of thousands of residents in eight prefectures received evacuation advisories. Airlines including Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways cancelled nearly 900 international and domestic services. Bullet train services were delayed in Kyushu and western Japan, and some rail services in the Tokyo area were suspended. Toyota Motor suspended operations at 13 domestic plants, and Suzuki Motor halted work at five plants in Shizuoka Prefecture.
