Key facts
- Clean energy equipment is becoming more complex, hazardous, and difficult to transport.
DHL Group CEO Tobias Meyer highlighted that the increasing complexity, size, and hazardous nature of clean energy components like wind turbine blades and batteries pose significant logistical challenges. The company anticipates substantial growth in its New Energy Logistics sector.

The increasing difficulty in transporting clean energy equipment could slow the pace of the global energy transition, impacting efforts to reduce fossil fuel dependence and bolster energy resilience. DHL's investment and specialized services aim to mitigate these logistical bottlenecks.
Global efforts to transition away from fossil fuels are encountering logistical hurdles as clean energy equipment becomes increasingly complex, hazardous, and oversized. DHL Group, a major logistics provider, is scaling up its New Energy Logistics capabilities to address these challenges.
According to DHL Group CEO Tobias Meyer, components such as giant wind turbine blades and batteries with fire risks are presenting significant transport difficulties. Meyer noted that these large cargoes create high wind loads for vessels and require specialized handling. The company has identified New Energy as a key growth area, projecting its New Energy Logistics business to generate €3 billion ($3.5 billion) in revenue by 2030, up from approximately €600 million last year.
DHL Group has made substantial global investments in this sector, aligning with its Strategy 2030. The company offers comprehensive, end-to-end logistics solutions across eight segments of the new energy market, including battery energy storage systems, electric vehicles, hydrogen, and solar and wind power. Martyn Lawns, CEO of DHL Industrial Projects, highlighted the company's expertise in handling complex machinery and its global network of warehouses and multi-modal solutions.
To support the maintenance and repair of wind farms, particularly in remote locations, DHL is launching a new service called Time Definite Plus. This service will leverage the DHL Express network with customized delivery options to ensure timely and efficient delivery of spare parts.
