The Andhra Pradesh government is set to significantly bolster its electricity network with the completion and commissioning of 24 power transmission projects, valued at Rs 3,507 crore, between June and December 2026.
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand reviewed the progress of these projects, executed by Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO), and instructed officials to ensure their timely completion. These initiatives are crucial for augmenting the state's electricity infrastructure, enhancing grid stability, and meeting the growing power demand from agriculture, industries, commercial establishments, and domestic consumers.
Vijayanand emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of 400 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV transmission projects. APTRANSCO has already added 1,465 MVA transformation capacity and 571 circuit kilometres (CKM) of transmission lines by commissioning three 400 kV, eight 220 kV, and 21 132 kV substations. Currently, 68 transmission projects with an investment of Rs 5,279 crore are in various stages of execution, which will add 15,224.5 MVA transformation capacity and 1,828 CKM of transmission lines upon completion.
Furthermore, tenders have been floated for 29 new projects expected to add 4,520 MVA and 700 CKM, while 72 more projects are under planning, with tenders anticipated within three months. These efforts are designed to strengthen the transmission network and ensure efficient power evacuation from generating stations to load centers.
Key projects slated for inauguration include the Rs 875-crore 400/220 kV GIS substation at Atchutapuram, the Rs 560-crore 400/220 kV substation at Gudivada, and the Rs 380-crore 400/132 kV substation at Ainavilli. Other significant projects include substations at Kapuluppada, Banavasi, and Pullalacheruvu. These developments are expected to improve grid stability, reduce transmission losses, and support the industrial, agricultural, and socio-economic growth of Andhra Pradesh.
