Ticketmaster sought to reassure New York Knicks fans that they would be able to attend Saturday's Game 5 of the NBA Finals, despite a geographic restriction on ticket purchases. The platform had indicated that tickets purchased by individuals living more than 150 miles from the San Antonio arena would be canceled.
This policy sparked concern and outrage among Knicks fans and New York officials. Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James publicly criticized the restriction, with James demanding its removal. However, Ticketmaster and Spurs representatives later confirmed that tickets already purchased would not be canceled or revoked, and all ticket holders would be admitted to the Frost Bank Center.
The geographic restriction, based on credit card billing addresses, had been in place since the start of the NBA playoffs in April. Ticketmaster stated such measures are common for high-demand events to give local fans a better chance of securing seats.
