African defense technology company Terra Industries announced on Monday that it has closed its seed funding round at $52 million, with an additional $18 million secured recently. Investors in this round include 8VC, Silent Ventures, and Nova Global.
Launched in 2024, Terra Industries is developing autonomous systems, drones, and mine-detecting vehicles to address security challenges in the Global South. The company anticipates booking $100 million in contracts and generating tens of millions in revenue by the end of the year. Earlier funding rounds this year included $11.75 million and $22 million.
Terra Industries aims to solve the issue of fragmented defense supply chains in Africa, where many countries rely on external suppliers from Turkey, China, and the West. The company seeks to become a primary provider of military and critical defense infrastructure for nations in the region.
The newly acquired capital will support manufacturing expansion across the Global South, the establishment of a London office, increased hiring, and accelerated product deployment. Terra Industries also plans to open an office in San Francisco and establish a presence in Washington, D.C. to enhance access to capital and U.S. partnerships.
