Tata Consumer Products Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced ambitious expansion plans for the Tata Starbucks joint venture in India, indicating a potential for up to 8,000 stores in the country. The company intends to add 50 to 100 Starbucks outlets annually.
Chandrasekaran highlighted that the QSR chain business is a "very high-potential business" and has become EBITDA positive in FY26. This profitability was achieved alongside a 7% revenue increase to Rs 1,367 crore and a reduced net loss of Rs 98.95 crore in the same fiscal year, driven by store expansion and positive same-store sales growth.
The joint venture, a 50:50 partnership between Tata Consumer Products and Starbucks Corporation, currently operates 502 stores across 80 cities. The expansion efforts are focused on strengthening presence in metropolitan areas while also building momentum in Tier II and III cities. India's growing cafe culture, fueled by its millennial population, urbanization, and rising disposable incomes, supports this growth strategy.
