Royals pitcher Cole Ragans faces injury rehab setback

Royals manager Matt Quatraro stated that Ragans "woke up yesterday not feeling well, arm-wise," and had to shorten a catch session on Friday. Ragans had previously thrown a bullpen session on Wednesday. He left his May 6 start against the Cleveland Guardians after three innings with a diagnosis of valgus extension overload.

Ragans had made a rehab start in Triple-A Omaha on May 23, pitching 4 1/3 innings, and was anticipated to rejoin the Royals' rotation shortly. The team plans to conduct further testing on Ragans in the coming days.

This setback for the Royals follows the placement of All-Star right-hander Seth Lugo on the seven-day concussion injured list after he was struck by a line drive during his May 10 start.
