To fill Carter's spot on the roster, the Rangers recalled infielder Cody Freeman from Triple-A Round Rock. Freeman was in Saturday's starting lineup.
Additionally, manager Skip Schumaker indicated that All-Star shortstop Corey Seager is day-to-day with soreness following a home plate collision in Thursday's game. Schumaker noted Seager is improving but not yet ready to play.
The Rangers also added right-handed pitcher Joe Ross to the roster, signing him to a minor-league deal last month, and optioned right-handed pitcher Luis Curvelo.
