British travellers are increasingly booking holidays at the last minute, with next-day bookings rising 26% year-on-year, according to data from online travel agent loveholidays. Despite the trend towards spontaneous getaways, popular destinations remain familiar favourites like Mallorca and Tenerife.

New data from online travel agent loveholidays reveals a significant surge in last-minute holiday bookings among British travellers this summer. Bookings made for departure the very next day have jumped by 26% compared to the previous year. Additionally, trips booked within two days of departure have seen a 19% increase, while those booked within three days are up 15% year-on-year.
Despite the trend towards spontaneous getaways, the destinations chosen for these last-minute escapes remain familiar and reliable. The top five most popular locations for next-day departures are Mallorca, Tenerife, Antalya, Costa Blanca, and Ibiza. These destinations are favoured for their consistent sunshine, short flight times from the UK, and frequent flight availability.
Convenience is a key factor for these spontaneous travellers, with all-inclusive holidays accounting for 41% of bookings departing the following day. This indicates a preference for hassle-free breaks that require minimal planning upon arrival.
Al Murray, Chief Marketing and Supply Officer at loveholidays, noted that the traditional booking window is evolving, with more holidaymakers opting for spontaneous trips when the right combination of price, availability, and time off aligns. He added that this spontaneity in booking does not extend to destination choice, as travellers continue to gravitate towards familiar favourites.
