The family of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew has dedicated a new adaptive playground for children with special needs at Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, New Jersey. The playground is named 'The Gaudreau Brothers' Wings of Hope & Chrysalis Corner.' Jane Gaudreau, the mother of the brothers, expressed her pride in the honor, stating that the boys would have been excited to see the playground. The initiative was largely funded by the Gaudreau Family 5K, which raised 98 percent of the necessary funds, with the remainder completed through a community build. Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away in August 2024 after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bicycles. Johnny Gaudreau had a distinguished NHL career, playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets and previously the Calgary Flames. Matthew Gaudreau played college hockey at Boston College and also played professionally in the AHL and ECHL.
