Cubitts, a London-based spectacle maker founded in 2012, has opened a significant new hub in King's Cross. The 13,000 square foot facility, located on the site of former Victorian stables, will serve as the company's global headquarters. It will also house an optical manufacturing facility and a training academy, with plans to accommodate up to 100 staff within three years.
Founder Tom Broughton chose the central London location despite higher costs, emphasizing the importance of proximity to customers and the historical 'romance' of the site. The company has made bespoke glasses for notable clients including Idris Elba, Ryan Reynolds, Madonna, and Cynthia Erivo.
Cubitts reported a loss of £967,000 for the year ending March 2025, attributed to investment costs for its first stores in the US. This contrasts with a near break-even performance the previous year. Revenue, however, increased by 15% to £16.8 million during the same period.
Following the successful expansion into New York, Cubitts plans further international growth, with upcoming openings in Ireland and future expansion into Japan, potentially through a joint venture. Broughton noted that while he values physical stores, their operating costs are increasing, pushing the business towards a different international growth strategy.
