CSIR-NAL has identified a production partner, Pioneer Clean Amps, for its indigenous HANSA-3 (NG) two-seater trainer aircraft, a crucial component for pilot training in India. The organization plans to produce the aircraft in large numbers to meet the growing demand for trained pilots and reduce reliance on overseas training.
Director Abhay A Pashilkar stated that while one prototype has been built, three more are planned to expedite the process. The partnership with Pioneer Clean Amps, which is setting up a facility in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, is essential for scaling up production beyond CSIR-NAL's manufacturing capabilities. The HANSA-3 is specifically designed for Commercial Pilot Licence training.
In contrast, the SARAS Mk-2, a 19-seat multi-role light transport aircraft program, is still in its design phase, with critical design completion expected soon. India currently has around 38 Flight Training Organisations (FTOs) and aims to expand this number to over 70 to train more than 400 pilots annually.
