China's market regulator has summoned a Walmart China executive to address food safety issues that have recently emerged within its Sam's Club supermarket chain. The regulator emphasized the need for Walmart to strictly prevent food safety risks across its entire supply chain and ensure public dietary safety.
This summons follows a previous instance where Walmart was reportedly called in by Chinese authorities over demands for significant price reductions from its Chinese suppliers. This move was seen as an attempt to shift the burden of U.S. tariffs onto Chinese businesses and consumers. At that time, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs deferred questions to relevant Chinese authorities.
