Texas lawyer used AI to win landmark social media addiction case against Meta

Texas trial lawyer Mark Lanier secured a significant victory against Meta and Google in a landmark social media addiction case, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance his legal strategy. Lanier, known for high-stakes corporate litigation, represented the plaintiff who was awarded $6 million after a jury found the tech giants negligent.

The jury determined that Meta and Google were aware of the dangers their platforms posed to users but failed to issue adequate warnings. This verdict is considered a bellwether for thousands of similar lawsuits pending against social media companies.

Lanier credited AI, particularly a platform called Boodlebox, with transforming his trial preparation and execution. He highlighted that Boodlebox, which integrates models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, enabled him to create a custom AI license tailored to his extensive legal experience.

He emphasized that his use of AI was not for generating briefs or research, avoiding common pitfalls like AI hallucinations or fabricated citations. Instead, he focused on using AI to analyze daily court transcripts, evaluate jury notes, and find more effective ways to articulate arguments. Lanier's firm invested thousands of hours on the platform, with a dedicated AI team keeping him updated on the rapidly evolving technology.
