Tesla's self-driving tech approved in Belgium

Belgium is the third country within the European Union to grant approval for Tesla's system, following similar decisions in the Netherlands and Lithuania. The Dutch approval was considered a significant step for the technology, which, despite its name, still requires active driver supervision. Flemish Minister De Ridder had previously requested documentation from Tesla to assess the possibility of a swift approval, emphasizing the importance of encouraging innovation while upholding safety standards.

Belgian Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet confirmed that regional approvals for Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology will be recognized nationally, aiming to harmonize regulations and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. While the regulatory path is clearing, Tesla must still ensure its software meets specific EU safety standards and local traffic laws. The company continues to work with transport authorities to validate its systems across diverse European driving conditions. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed confidence in eventual EU-wide approval, though some countries remain cautious.
