Eric Brownrout has developed Ribbie, a website that converts real-time Major League Baseball (MLB) data into visually engaging 8-bit broadcasts with arcade-style pixel art. Brownrout, who also co-founded the AI SaaS platform Frigade, was inspired by the aesthetic of pixel art and the wealth of data available in baseball.
He found traditional play-by-play apps like ESPN Gamecast to be boring and sought to create a more visually appealing experience. Brownrout utilized AI coding tools, specifically Claude Code and Codex, to accelerate the development process, enabling him to build and launch Ribbie over a few weekends rather than months. Codex was instrumental in generating images and sprites, while Claude Code assisted with the web application development.
