Reddit tests audio and video features inspired by TikTok

The new experience will allow users to listen to Reddit posts in the background or watch them as videos, potentially making content more accessible during activities like exercising or commuting. These tests, beginning Monday, will be rolled out across select communities and will initially focus on English-language posts, accessible through Reddit's iOS and Android applications.

Reddit emphasizes that these new formats are experimental and designed to understand user engagement and authenticity on the platform. The original text-only posts and their comment sections will remain unaffected, with users gaining an additional option to engage with content through audio or video playback when available. This initiative follows Reddit's prior attempts at integrating video, including native video hosting and video support within comments, which now constitutes over 10% of video posts on the platform.
