Mobileye, the self-driving technology company owned by Intel, announced plans to launch its own robotaxi service in a U.S. city in 2027. The service will be vertically integrated, utilizing Mobileye's Moovit mobility platform for customer bookings and driver coordination. The company intends to begin with approximately 100 robotaxis and aims to scale its fleet to 17,000 vehicles within five years.
Prof. Amnon Shashua, founder and CEO of Mobileye, stated that operating its own service will allow the company to accelerate adoption, gain direct operational experience, and showcase the full potential of autonomous mobility. This initiative is an extension of existing partnerships, not a replacement, and Mobileye remains committed to enabling automakers and mobility providers with its Mobileye Drive system. The company has previously partnered with Volkswagen Group's MOIA to develop a robotaxi and with Lyft to deploy robotaxis in Dallas.
Mobileye previously supplied advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) to Tesla, but that relationship ended in 2016. Since then, the company has continued to develop ADAS technologies, including its SuperVision system used by Porsche and Polestar.
