This goes beyond a simple smart doorbell by enabling conversational retrieval of specific footage.

This patent is a continuation of a 2022 application and is currently in the "Ready for Examination" phase, indicating it is not yet granted and far from being a shipping product. It builds upon Meta's existing hardware, such as the Ray-Ban smart glasses, which record video and can utilize AI to interpret what the wearer sees.

The proposed technology has drawn criticism due to privacy concerns, particularly regarding the identification and logging of specific people without their active consent. This echoes worries previously expressed by Democratic senators about real-time facial identification potentially exposing individuals to stalking and harassment. Meta's current smart glasses have already faced scrutiny for their ability to record strangers in public and for private footage being reviewed by contractors.
