Hyundai Motor Group is set to launch a demonstration project for its parking robot technology at an apartment complex in Siheung, west of Seoul. This initiative, part of the government's smart city regulatory sandbox program, aims to develop an advanced smart parking management system.
The project involves a consortium formed by Hyundai Motor Co., its auto parts affiliate Hyundai Wia Co., and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (E&C) Co. Two sets of Hyundai Wia's slim parking robots, each measuring only 110 millimeters in height, will be deployed in the parking garage of the 1,796-household Hillstate The Wave City apartment complex, which is scheduled to welcome residents next year.
These robots are engineered to move beneath vehicles, lift their wheels, and transport them to designated parking spaces. Equipped with LiDAR sensors, they are capable of automatically parking vehicles weighing up to 3.4 tons, including SUVs, at speeds of up to 1.2 meters per second. Hyundai Motor Group stated that the project's objectives include alleviating parking space shortages in residential areas and enhancing safety through the integration of robotic technology.
