Hollywood stars, including Javier Bardem and Cate Blanchett, are launching a new free online tool called rslmedia.org to protect artists' identities from artificial intelligence.
The platform allows any artist or content creator to register and specify their level of consent for AI to use their face, voice, movements, or ideas. Consent is categorized into three levels: green for permitted use, yellow for use under certain conditions (like payment), and red for prohibited use.
Cate Blanchett, who co-founded the non-profit initiative with Nikki Hexum, Doug Leeds, and Eckart Walther, presented the tool at the European Parliament. She emphasized the need for consent-based safeguards to keep pace with technological advancements and protect human rights, stating that human identity should be treated as intellectual property.
Film director Steven Soderbergh, also present at the event, described the platform as a "persuasive mechanism to do the right thing in a simple, elegant way," aiming to provide direction amidst the rapid development of AI. Representatives from the technology industry reportedly voiced concerns that such initiatives could hinder Europe's technological competitiveness.
