Google Limits Meta's Access to Gemini AI Models Amid Capacity Shortfall

Around March, Google informed Meta that it could not fulfill the full Gemini capacity the social media company intended to purchase. This shortfall has reportedly disrupted and delayed some of Meta's internal AI initiatives. While other Google clients have also been affected to a lesser degree, Meta's exceptionally high demand for Google's models has made it particularly impacted, according to the report.

In response to these limitations, Meta has advised its staff to use AI tokens, which measure AI usage, more efficiently. The situation highlights the ongoing challenge companies face in securing sufficient computing power to support the escalating demand for AI services, despite significant investments in chips and data centers.

Google Cloud's revenue reached $20 billion in the first quarter ending March. However, CEO Sundar Pichai indicated that computing power constraints hindered even greater growth and contributed to a near doubling of the cloud unit's backlog quarter-over-quarter.
