France's domestic intelligence service, the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), is ending its contract with U.S. surveillance technology provider Palantir. The agency has selected French firm ChapsVision to develop and provide a local alternative to Palantir's data analysis tools.
The DGSI has utilized Palantir's services since 2016, and its contract was renewed until 2028. This decision comes as Europe increasingly seeks to reduce its dependence on U.S. technology for critical and sensitive services, including cloud computing, AI, and public software.
Palantir has faced scrutiny in Europe due to its close ties with the U.S. administration. The move by France follows a similar decision by German intelligence services last month, which also opted for ChapsVision over Palantir for their data analysis needs. ChapsVision has been involved in supporting security services, including intelligence, customs, and law enforcement, through a partnership launched in 2022.
