Blend Founder and Head Nima Ghamsari shared the company's ambitious approach to artificial intelligence in mortgage lending. Rather than incremental updates, Blend aims to fundamentally rebuild the lending process around AI. Ghamsari believes AI can significantly enhance human tasks like underwriting, processing, and customer service.
The company's Blend Autopilot product is already demonstrating this vision, having been adopted by numerous lenders and processing over 50,000 loans. Ghamsari noted that lenders have embraced the ease of activation and customization, which is critical for aligning AI with their specific operations to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Blend's strategy emphasizes staying close to lenders to understand their business outcomes, such as speed and cost of service. This customer-centric approach, combined with a tripling of development output per person since January, allows for rapid innovation. Ghamsari stressed that AI development is built upon Blend's existing compliance infrastructure, ensuring adherence to regulations like RESPA and ECOA.
Early results from Autopilot indicate a significant improvement in borrower experience, with a 19% higher conversion rate due to real-time underwriting. Ghamsari envisions a future where AI could compress the entire mortgage approval process into minutes, making it more accessible and easier for consumers.
