A report by Bitget, based on a study by its Blockchain4Youth (B4Y) initiative, reveals significant challenges for aspiring professionals seeking to enter the Web3 industry. The findings indicate that 54% of individuals cannot secure their first job, primarily due to a lack of prior experience. Additionally, 52% of respondents pointed to inadequate practical education, stating that while theoretical knowledge is abundant, hands-on training necessary for job acquisition is missing.
The report highlights a growing disconnect between the expansion of blockchain education globally and the limited employment pathways available. This creates a situation where the industry attracts talent, but the number of truly qualified candidates remains low.
Emerging markets, particularly Nigeria, Indonesia, and China, are identified as critical for shaping the future Web3 workforce, with over half of the survey respondents originating from these regions. Many participants also held advanced degrees and were between 23 and 30 years old.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, stressed the importance of converting this motivated and educated talent into actual employment within the industry. The report also noted a strong interest, with 61% of respondents seeking opportunities in the AI and blockchain convergence space, though they reported a lack of clear career development paths in this niche.
To address the experience gap, 62% of respondents expressed a willingness to engage in mentorship programs. Bitget's Blockchain4Youth initiative is actively working to provide blockchain education, mentorship, and career development opportunities, with over 10,000 learners registered on its platform. The report concludes that collaboration between educational institutions, employers, and industry participants is essential to bridge the gap between education and employment in the Web3 sector.
