Steve Jarrett, the artificial intelligence head of French telecoms group Orange, has left the company to join U.S. AI startup Anthropic, he announced on Thursday. Jarrett, who had been with Orange since 2019, will start at Anthropic on August 25 and will be based in Paris.
Jarrett's role will involve helping Anthropic "better understand and adapt" its products for the European and African markets. This move coincides with Anthropic's significant expansion in Europe, including the recent opening of its sixth European office in Milan and plans for new offices in Paris and Munich.
Anthropic, the maker of AI models Claude and Mythos, is aiming to triple its international workforce. The company has seen substantial growth in its EMEA region, with revenue run-rate increasing more than ninefold and the number of large business accounts growing more than tenfold in the past year. Thomas Remy has been appointed Head of EMEA South, based in the new Paris office, while Pip White will lead EMEA North from London, and Guillaume Princen will head EMEA Startups, Mid-Market and Digital Native Businesses.
Anthropic's expansion into Germany and France is driven by the significant usage of Claude in these countries and the presence of leading global companies in key sectors. The company's European workforce will encompass research, engineering, sales, and operations.
