Smart weather-monitoring device vendor AcuRite has postponed its plan to transition users from its My AcuRite app to the new AcuRite NOW application, originally scheduled for May 30. The decision follows significant user feedback highlighting shortcomings in the new app compared to its predecessor.
Jeff Bovee, AcuRite’s VP of product development, acknowledged that the transition has "raised serious questions and concerns among many long-time users." He confirmed the delay in shuttering My AcuRite, stating that the company is working to improve AcuRite NOW’s account setup, device onboarding, station connectivity, data visibility, app usability, notifications, and overall reliability.
Users had previously pointed out that AcuRite NOW lacked features present in My AcuRite, such as the ability to rename multiple temperature sensors, report temperatures in non-integers, and an online dashboard option. Problems with uploading data to weather sites and a suboptimal layout were also noted.
Bovee reiterated that the shift to AcuRite NOW is necessary for AcuRite to evolve beyond My AcuRite's focus on weather-station cloud dashboards. AcuRite NOW is designed as a more expansive connected-device platform, capable of supporting a wider range of devices, including third-party smart gadgets and those within Tuya’s SmartLife IoT ecosystem.
