Federal judge strikes down HUD’s homelessness policy shift

A federal judge has issued a ruling against the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) policy change concerning homelessness. The judge blocked HUD's effort to move away from the "housing first" approach, a strategy that prioritizes providing permanent housing to individuals experiencing homelessness. HUD, however, has stated that it stands by its decision to overhaul the system, asserting that the previous "housing first" model has proven to be a failure.

In a separate legal matter, an appeals court has allowed the Pentagon to maintain its rule requiring journalists to be escorted while inside the building. This decision permits the Defense Department to continue the escort policy pending the outcome of its appeal against a lower court's ruling. The lower court had previously found the escort policy to be unconstitutional.

Furthermore, a federal judge has denied the Trump administration's request to obtain detailed voter rolls from New Hampshire. The Justice Department had filed a lawsuit seeking this data, but the judge dismissed the case, ruling that the request did not adhere to federal law. This dismissal represents the tenth instance where the Trump administration has been unsuccessful in similar legal challenges aimed at acquiring voter data from various states.
