President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is preparing to propose Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko for the position of defence minister, according to several lawmakers. This potential appointment is part of a wider government reshuffle that Zelenskiy announced, citing a need to change Ukraine's political strategy.
Sources indicate that current Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov might be removed from his post. It is understood that Fedorov had previously declined an offer to lead the government, potentially preferring to continue his work on reforming the defence ministry or accepting another role, possibly a return to the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko has resigned, with Zelenskiy stating he offered her a new, significant role. If Klymenko is appointed as defence minister, the Interior Ministry could be led by Ivan Vyhivskyi, the current chief of the National Police.
