US Vice President JD Vance has emphasized that American policy must prioritize the nation's interests, even when dealing with allies. Speaking in a television interview, Vance stated that while allies like Israel may seek to influence U.S. policy, American leaders must remain focused on their own national interests and be cautious not to pursue policies that serve another country.
Vance confirmed that President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have disagreements on the approach to ending the conflict with Iran. He also criticized Israeli officials who had attacked a memorandum of understanding reached between Washington and Tehran.
In separate comments, Vance expressed confidence that the U.S. involvement in the Iran conflict could conclude within a year, suggesting diplomacy as the likely path forward. He indicated that the U.S. is close to achieving a long-term deal that addresses Iran's nuclear program. Vance also stated that if diplomacy fails, the administration has other tools available to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons without a prolonged military engagement.
Furthermore, Vance addressed immigration policy, stating that immigrants who acquire U.S. citizenship should prioritize American interests above those of their country of origin. He cited his father-in-law, an immigrant from India, as an example of someone who has contributed to the U.S. without seeking to advance his former country's interests.
