Trump: Reflecting Pool Repairs May Miss July 4th Deadline

Trump asserted that the damage was the result of vandalism, specifically a "very sharp knife or razors" creating a 350-foot gash and cutting into the pool's bottom. He claimed that six people have been arrested and seven cited for the damage. However, reporters visiting the site have not observed visible evidence of such extensive vandalism, and the practicality of such an act on the heavily monitored pool is unclear.

The reflecting pool's condition deteriorated after a $14.2 million renovation ordered by the Trump administration. The body of water began to fill with algae, turning green. Over the weekend, a dead duck was discovered in the reflecting pool, with two more carcasses found nearby in Constitution Gardens, though the cause of death for any of the ducks is unknown.

Democrats have criticized the renovation project, labeling it wasteful and indicative of an administration that overlooks Americans' economic needs. They have drawn parallels to other projects, such as the construction of a ballroom on the White House's East Wing, which they claim was intended to be privately funded but shifted taxpayer money.
