New Jersey Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. is slated to return to Congress on June 30, following an absence of several months due to an unspecified medical issue. Kean, who represents a key battleground district, has missed more than 100 House votes since his last recorded vote on March 5.
His office had previously stated in April that he was dealing with a personal medical issue and expected a full recovery. A political consultant for Kean, Harrison Neely, confirmed his return, stating that the congressman is eager to resume a full schedule and plans to be transparent about his health condition.
Kean is running for reelection and is set to face Democratic Navy veteran Rebecca Bennett in November. President Donald Trump recently endorsed Kean's reelection campaign. The district Kean represents has seen the seat change party hands in the past two midterm elections.
