A Minnesota woman has been rescued after being trapped in a mud pit for several days. Kathryn Woessner, 68, was discovered on June 6 by two friends, Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin, who were riding all-terrain vehicles in a wooded area near Backus and Hackensack. Woessner, who had last been seen on June 3, told her rescuers that her vehicle had become stuck, and while attempting to get around it, she slipped and fell into a mud puddle approximately 2 feet deep. The Douglas county sheriff’s office had issued an endangered missing person alert for Woessner, citing her medical conditions and lack of personal belongings. Gravalin noted that the area had been flooded following a recent storm. Sandbeck recalled thinking Woessner was dead when they first saw her partially submerged face before she whispered for help. The two men were able to pull Woessner from the mud, an effort that took less than half an hour. Paramedics were dispatched, and Woessner was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
