Man arrested over social media threat to shoot Nigel Farage

Farage, the leader of Reform UK, stated that this was the first instance of police proactively acting on a social media threat against him and called for increased funding for politician security. He noted that similar threats, including videos depicting violence, have been reported in the past without meeting the police threshold for action.

Zia Yusuf, Reform UK's home affairs spokesperson, commented on the "overwhelming sense of fear amongst Reform MPs" following the recent killing of Ann Widdecombe, a former MP and Reform UK spokesperson. Yusuf indicated that "some movement" had occurred regarding state protection for Reform MPs, particularly in light of new information, and expressed satisfaction that threats are being taken seriously.
