KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was expected to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, according to his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as reported by state news agency Bernama.

Anwar, 79, had undergone elective laparoscopic surgery on Monday to treat a para-umbilical hernia and had been under medical observation and receiving physiotherapy. His wife conveyed his appreciation to supporters who had prayed for his health and recovery.
