FBI Director Kash Patel gifted a 3D-printed imitation pistol to his Australian counterpart, Reece Kershaw, during a visit last July. The gift was initially displayed in the commissioner's office, with some AFP staff expressing excitement. However, shortly after Krissy Barrett assumed the role of AFP Commissioner in October, she ordered the destruction of the imitation pistol. The AFP confirmed the item was a "challenge coin display featuring a 3D-printed imitation pistol" and was verified as inoperable by their forensic firearms team before being destroyed on the advice of the ACT Firearms Registry. Similar replica pistols gifted by Patel to New Zealand officials were also reportedly destroyed due to the country's gun laws. Separately, Kershaw received approval to retain a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon as a retirement gift.
