Former Canadian Member of Parliament Inky Mark has been arrested and charged with multiple firearms offenses following a police investigation that uncovered a large cache of weapons and cash at his home in Manitoba. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized 439 firearms, ammunition, an antique cannon, and more than C$300,000 in cash during a firearms trafficking probe.
Mark, 78, faces charges including firearms trafficking, possessing unauthorized devices, and unsafe storage. The investigation was initiated in March after police were alerted to firearms charges in the U.S. involving another Dauphin-area man. This led RCMP to discover firearms allegedly purchased by Mark that were reportedly never lawfully transferred. Officials stated that at least three firearms are believed to have been illegally trafficked, and one had its serial number tampered with.
RCMP Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy emphasized the seriousness of illegal weapons trafficking, thanking officers for their efforts. Corporal Barry Kirby noted that Mark is known as a firearm collector. Mark previously served as the mayor of Dauphin and represented a federal constituency from 1997 until his resignation in 2010. He appeared in court last week on a dozen charges and was released under specific conditions.
