A federal judge is scheduled to review on Wednesday an agreement between the Trump administration and Halkbank that would resolve the Justice Department's criminal prosecution of the Turkish state-run lender. The bank was accused of aiding Iran in evading U.S. economic sanctions.
The settlement, announced in March, aims to ease tensions between Turkey and the United States, NATO allies whose relations have been strained since the charges were first filed in 2019. The announcement of the deal had previously caused Halkbank's shares to surge on the Istanbul stock exchange.
