The Indian Army has implemented a new dress code manual, 'Army Uniforms-2026,' which updates regulations on uniforms, grooming, and ceremonial practices. This 174-page document replaces the previous manual from eight years ago and aims to modernize the Army's appearance while reflecting Indian values.
Key changes include the introduction of a new winter uniform, Winter Dress No. 3B, for all ranks, consisting of an angola shirt, battle jacket, and beret. For the first time, officers are permitted to wear closed-neck bandi jackets over a full-sleeved shirt with formal trousers for formal occasions. Women officers now have expanded formal dress options, including sarees or kurta-salwar with ankle-length trousers and a dupatta, though sleeveless kurtas and casual pants are prohibited.
