An Idaho mother, Andrea Shaw, 23, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her 18-month-old twins, Tyson and Dallas. The children were discovered deceased in their shared bed on May 1 of last year, prompting a homicide investigation by Payette police.
More than a year after the twins' deaths, the cause of death has not been publicly released by the Ada County Medical Examiner's Office. However, court documents cited by KTVB indicate the indictment alleges Shaw suffocated her toddlers.
Days after her children died, Shaw and her husband appeared on a podcast hosted by the anti-vaccination organization Children's Health Defense, where Shaw claimed that routine vaccines administered to the twins at an 18-month well-child visit had caused their deaths. She also stated that investigators had determined the cause of death was asphyxiation and suggested she had experienced a postpartum blackout.
Shaw's attorney, Joseph Filicetti, has also publicly alleged that the twins died from vaccinations, though he has not provided evidence to support this claim. Shaw was arrested without incident in Boise on June 30 and is currently being held on a $2 million bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 14.
