Manas Bhunia, a former minister in the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal, has resigned from the Trinamool Congress. Bhunia, who was a seven-time MLA from the Sabang constituency, sent a letter to party chairperson Mamata Banerjee announcing his decision to quit all organisational posts and membership.
Bhunia stated that he will continue to work for Sabang and the people of West Bengal. He had previously been a senior Congress leader before joining the TMC in 2016. He lost the 2026 election from Sabang to BJP's Amal Kumar Panda by over 11,000 votes and had also lost the 2019 parliamentary polls from the Medinipur constituency to Dilip Ghosh.
