Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, told a court he was chased by a man wearing a balaclava near his Sandringham home. The alleged incident occurred on May 6 as Mountbatten-Windsor was walking his dogs.
During a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, parts of Mountbatten-Windsor's witness statement were read. He described seeing a car he assumed belonged to press photographers and then encountering a man wearing a face covering who later sprinted after his vehicle. Mountbatten-Windsor's security detail was also present.
Alex Jenkinson, 39, from Stowmarket, Suffolk, is accused of causing Mountbatten-Windsor to fear unlawful violence. He denies this charge and a further charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against another man, Stephen Terry, on May 5 in King's Lynn.
Suffolk Police are applying for a civil Stalking Protection Order against Jenkinson. The court hearing took place in Jenkinson's absence after he was blocked from entering the building with his dog. His lawyer, Claire Howell, stated the dog is a support animal for his ADHD and that she lacked documentation to prove his condition or need for the animal.
Jenkinson is currently on conditional bail, which prohibits him from going near Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, Windsor, or Highgrove. He is also forbidden from attempting to contact Mountbatten-Windsor directly or indirectly, approaching him, or entering Norfolk. The trial is expected to commence on December 21.
