Australia Sells Advanced Radar to Canada for $1.75 Billion

Australia has agreed to sell its advanced Over-the-Horizon Radar technology to Canada for A$2.5 billion ($1.75 billion), marking the largest defence export deal in Australian history. The technology, capable of detecting aircraft, ships, and missiles up to 3,000 km away, will be used to enhance Canada's surveillance of its Arctic region.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the agreement is a significant milestone in Australian defence trade and will foster deeper collaboration with Canada. Canada's secretary of state for defence procurement, Stephen Fuhr, noted that the project is part of a broader effort to build an integrated Arctic surveillance and communications network.

The deal is expected to create approximately 300 jobs in Australia and represents the initial phase of a wider partnership between the two nations concerning the radar technology.
