At least eight people, including four children, were shot and injured in New York City's Coney Island neighborhood late on the US Independence Day holiday. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:37 p.m. on West 31st Street in Brooklyn.
The injured included two men, two women, and four children aged 6, 7, 12, and 14. Seven victims were transported to hospitals in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman was reported to be in critical condition. Police recovered a firearm at the scene but have not made any arrests.
The incident occurred on the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence. The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
