Hundreds of masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front marched through parts of Washington, D.C., on Saturday, July 4. The group, known for its uniforms and flash mob-style demonstrations, posted on social media that approximately 400 members had arrived in the capital.
Photographers observed hundreds of individuals dressed in Patriot Front attire traveling on D.C. Metro trains. Videos shared on social media and the group's Telegram channel depicted them marching to drummers near the U.S. Capitol building. Participants wore khaki pants, blue shirts, white face coverings, and sunglasses, carrying the group's flag, Confederate flags, and variations of the American flag while chanting "Reclaim America."
Around midday, the group boarded Metro trains and exited at New Carrollton, Maryland, a suburb of Washington. The Patriot Front was formed in 2017 after the deadly "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, reportedly breaking off from the Vanguard America white supremacist group. A manifesto on the Patriot Front website states that "Democracy has failed this once great nation" and calls for a "hard reset" to return to the traditions of European settlers.
