A former Air Canada captain, Geoffrey Wall, has been arrested and charged with fraud and other offenses after allegedly flying hundreds of domestic and international flights for nearly 17 years without the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). Peel Regional Police stated that Wall, 59, allegedly operated as an airline captain between 2009 and 2025, taking charge of more than 900 flights. Police said records showed that while he held a valid commercial pilot licence, he did not possess the ATPL, the highest level of pilot certification needed to captain large aircraft. Air Canada confirmed Wall lacked the ATPL, comparing the situation to a doctor performing surgery without the correct license. The airline stated that passenger safety was not compromised, as all pilots undergo mandatory recurrent training every six months and annual flight checks. Air Canada conducted an audit of its pilots and found no other instances of non-compliance. Upon discovery, Wall was removed from active duty, and the airline voluntarily reported the matter to Transport Canada. The police investigation, dubbed Project Icarus, was launched following a Transport Canada review of Wall's licensing credentials.
