Volatility Is at Its Lows Heading Into Its Strongest Two Months.

The range that trapped the market for three months is not a range anymore, and Tim Knight says it is now support. This was the biggest up bar since the spring, the Dow printed a lifetime high, and small caps undid weeks of selling in two sessions. The reason he is not in pain is blunt: he had cut his exposure to about 14 percent, and has only rebuilt to around half normal size. He is still not aggressive. His largest position remains long-dated bearish exposure to China, which he notes is one of the few things lower on a day like this, and he reads the continued slide in crude as the market pricing a durable peace rather than anything a headline can tell you. The part worth marking on your calendar is volatility, now crushed to the bottom of its usual range just as it enters the two months when it has historically tended to rise.
