Brazil Rains Push Sugar Mills to December and Damage Cane

An expected global sugar deficit in 2026/27 is driving the sugar rally, as Brazil's rains slow the harvest and Europe and Thailand produce less. Marcelo Bonifacio, StoneX Brazil, Senior Market Intelligence Analyst, explains how fund positioning and global crops are reshaping sugar trade flows. Heavy rains have slowed Brazil's Center-South crush and pushed mills into December. Heat waves cut the European Union beet crop, returning the bloc to net imports, while Thailand's output falls and India's thin stocks keep it out of exports. Brazil's record 2027/28 crush reaches export markets mainly from the second half of 2027.
